Overwatch League
The Overwatch League (abbreviated as "OWL") is the primary league for Overwatch esports owned and operated by Blizzard Entertainment. The league debuted in 2018 with 12 city-based franchise teams competing for $3.5 million in prize money, and a $1 million grand prize in the playoffs at the end of the season.
The 12 inaugural teams of the 2018 season were the Boston Uprising, Florida Mayhem, Houston Outlaws, London Spitfire, New York Excelsior, and Philadelphia Fusion in the Atlantic Division, and the Dallas Fuel, Los Angeles Gladiators, Los Angeles Valiant, San Francisco Shock, Seoul Dynasty, and Shanghai Dragons in the Pacific Division.
Eight more expansion teams were added in the 2019 season: the Atlanta Reign, Paris Eternal, Toronto Defiant, and Washington Justice in the Atlantic Division, and the Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, Hangzhou Spark, and Vancouver Titans in the Pacific Division.
