Criteria for the tournament to be listed is that it is already happened, so price money it awards can be attributed to specific players. There is no certain amount of money that is needed.
Data comes from news sites and competitive gaming wikis, one would find out about such tournaments by reading them. For example main site for StarCraft2 is http://www.teamliquid.net/ and for CS:GO its http://www.hltv.org/ . The sources for the results pages are listed in those same results pages. For example in http://www.esportsearnings.com/tournaments/6418-the-international-2014 scroll to the bottom of the pages for "references".
Big competition, google tells me: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1127814884/esport-world-finals-gaming-championship-e-gamers-r http://www.esportworldfinals.com/
Quite odd stuff, I am confused about the intentions behind this. Torn between scam, troll and mental health problems.
I agree with you. Maybe add in a note saying that these players were playing as standins during this season? I also highly doubt that the standins get same kinds of cuts from the prize money. It would be fun to know actually, if they get any kind of cut at all, or are they just doing favors for friends.
Seeing team history in one page is the thing I am most interested in here. Combined tournaments winnings across not so interesting afterall, since I think I have pretty good guesses. But yeah seeing team history in one page across all games is great!
I am trying to add a tournament that awarded its money on emirat dirhams (AED). I cannot find it on the list, so I am guessing Vanix is gonna add it to the list? Maybe this thread can be used to request new currencies? How should the devs proceed if they spot this in other currencies?
One thing that is against it is that new version of the game gets released almost every year? Not sure how often but that must have some effect on the scene.
You have valid reasoning behind your opinion, but in my opinion these kinds of payments may be really hard to track due to incomplete information.
One problem I see with this now with CS:GO (and maybe in the future with LCS) is that all this information may not be available, or may be available some time later after the seasons. In CS:GO, during majors Valve sells ingame stickers of teams, of which some % of money goes to team attending. The information on how much each team gets is not public, but rumors is that its around 10k per player. Adding to this is that some teams keep some percentage of that money, and some teams give all to its players. This depends on their contracts.
In a way I see this money as a salary. They are not prize money, you don't get them by winning... just attending. Kind of takes away the point of the rankings of the players... especially within a game. Then again maybe you could have a different section for them? Would be difficult to implement.
Some of the semi-pro and pro players have been caught over the years for cheating. This has not taken away their winnings, but in my opinion it tarnishes their whole career. Should these bans and cheating be added to player pages? Straight to biography or? Of course a source for this cheating must be added (VAC or league ban?). This is something that has been on my mind for some time.
Hello!
I am Nurmis from Finland. I have followed eSports from around 2008, but what really got me into it was GSL season 2 in 2010. Loved watching TLO, Jinro and Idra play... then after Stephano retired and tournaments started to be just Koreans fighting each other (and in my opinion as the game got more figured out, it got more boring), my passion for the game died. I used to occasionally watch CS 1.6, but with the launch of Global Offensive I have watched most of the big tournaments held.
I have added some SC2, 1.6, CSS and CS:GO tournaments to this site... I used to spam the tips part of this site before development area was here :D. I have tried to find more information on smaller lans and online tournaments with semi-pro players, as the information on those is hardest to find.
Oh yeah and I am @Nurmisp at twitter and Nurmis @ IRCnet
One feature that comes to mind is the ability to see lan/online winnings in games. This should be fairly easy to implement, as online tournaments locations are either "online" or "Online"?
In CS scene saying someone is "online" is kind of insult, in that in online play cheating is more common. Maybe you could even see the percentage of winnings that are from online play?
