osu!

osu! is a freeware rhythm game developed and published by Australia-based company Ppy Pty Ltd, led by Dean Herbert. Originally released for Microsoft Windows in 2007, the game has also been ported to macOS, and Windows Phone. Its game play is based on commercial titles including Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents, Taiko no Tatsujin, Beatmania IIDX, O2Jam, and DJMax.

The main objective of osu! is to clear a beatmap by preventing the health bar from draining to zero. This is achieved by hitting the hit-elements as they appear to the song's rhythm, which will replenish the bar accordingly. More experienced players will often strive for a more specific and difficult goal, such as acquiring a better high score or grade on a map by improving the timing of their hits, avoiding misses to maximize the combo multiplier or applying difficulty-raising modifiers in exchange for score multipliers.
